natural sensation

Natural Sensation is an authentic way to take care of babies’ skin that Chicco has learned from nature. It is approved by dermatologists and paediatricians. Natural Sensation is a complete line of products designed to cleanse, protect and nourish baby’s skin. It is inspired by what nature has developed for said purposes, namely vernix caseosa that coats the infant’s body in mother’s womb. The line has been specially studied for baby skin starting from the very first days of life. Composed especially of water (80%), it contains several protective, moisturizing substances and performs a remarkable barrier effect on skin.

VERNIX CASEOSA: NATURAL PROTECTION DURING PREGNANCY

Vernix caseosa, a whitish-yellow secretion made up of water (80-81%) and squalene, waxes (of sebaceous origin), triglycerides and cholesterol, is formed during the final quarter of pregnancy. This coat plays a protective role: during intrauterine life, it isolates the skin of the foetus from amniotic fluid to prevent skin maceration; at birth it protects the infant’s skin that, at birth, is suddenly placed in an environment that presents entirely different conditions, in a context that is virtually free of water. Vernix caseosa is, therefore, an evolutionary tool that has been perfected to allow survival as environmental conditions undergo changes. This coat peels off by desquamation during the days that follow childbirth, and the process draws to a close approximately between the seventh and tenth day of life.

Baby's Skin:

Skin is an actual organ with specific metabolic, relational and protective functions. Recent non-invasive, in vivo techniques have proven that skin physiology evolves at least until the second year of life, thus confuting the idea that skin is completely mature already at the time of birth of term-born babies. The maturation process that turns baby skin into “adult” skin is significant especially during the first months and continues during the early years. The skin continues to develop and evolve naturally in terms of structure, composition and functions.
